about AN ILLUSTRATION

My name is Alexander Naughton. I am a freelance illustrator based in a wee seaside town just outside Edinburgh. I work with a wide range of clients from national magazines and newspapers to individual writers on Substack and self publishing authors. My clients include, The Guardian, Edinburgh University, The Intrinsic Perspective, Useful Fictions, BBC Science Focus and many more.

My work is primarily focused on editorial illustration and book cover design but I do the odd mural and product illustration and I am keen to diversify my work. I am open to commissions in publishing, editorial and commercial illustration, including personal blogs and Substack newsletters. If you have a collaborative project idea, please get in touch, I’m happy to consider a fun book project or exhibition. Also, if you would like to commission a one-off piece of art for personal consumption, I would be happy to price for that too.

Basically, if you need a drawing for any reason, I am very likely to want to do it

The scheme

I live on the ugly side of a beautiful town by the sea on a pleasant plain where the black cliffs give way to sandy beaches.
